Report: Minister says flights to Egyptian resorts may restart soon
MOSCOW, Apr 12 (PRIME) -- Charter flights between the Russian cities and the Egyptian resorts may be relaunched very soon, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview to Egyptian newspaper Al-Akhram seen by PRIME on April 11.
“Over the past few years, relevant specialists of the two countries have done a lot of joint work in this direction. I expect that charter flights from Russia to Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada may be relaunched very soon,” he said.
Russia is interested in restoring scheduled flights to the Egyptian resorts, and prospects for cooperation of the two countries in the tourism sphere are good. “The Egyptian resorts became a destination of choice for vacations of many Russians a long time ago, and the inflow of foreign tourists to Egypt is an important source of budget revenue,” he said.
A source in the tourism industry told PRIME late on April 9 that the government’s center for fight with the spread of coronavirus met on Friday and made no decisions on the relaunch of flights to Turkey. These decisions may be made on Monday, the source said.
